  • The Most Common Benign Breast Tumor
  • Most Common in Young Women (Age 15-35)

Presentation

  • Well-Defined Mobile Mass
  • Smooth Edges
  • Rubbery Consistency
  • May Cause Pain
  • Vary with Hormonal Changes:
    • May Vary with Cycle
    • Increase in Size with Pregnancy

Diagnosis

  • Initial Evaluation: Imaging (Mammogram/US)
  • Diagnosis: Core Needle Biopsy (CNB)
    • May Be Difficult to Distinguish from Phyllodes Tumor (Both May Show Cellular Fibroepithelial Lesions)
  • *Consider Clinical Diagnosis Alone in Children/Adolescents without Imaging/CNB if Clearly Benign
  • *See Breast: Breast Mass Evaluation

Treatment

  • General Treatment: Observation & Repeat Imaging in 3-6 Months
  • Indications for Surgical Excision:
    • Symptomatic (Pain Most Common)
    • Interval Growth
    • Large Size (> 3 cm)
    • Unable to Exclude Malignancy
