Definitions

  • Exostosis: Outward Bony Growth from Existing Bone
  • Torus Palatinus: Exostosis of the Hard Palate Along the Midline
  • Torus Mandibularis: Exostosis of the Lingual Surface of the Mandible
    • Often Bilateral

Basics

  • Benign Masses

Presentation

  • Hard Mass
  • Covered with Normal Mucosa
  • Most are Small (< 2 mm)
  • Most are Asymptomatic
  • Can Interfere with Speech or Mastication

Treatment

  • Primary Management: Nothing
  • Consider Surgical Excision if Interfering with Daily Life (Speech, Mastication or Severe Anxiety)
